Progress Report

Proposal Document done.

My development schedule for the end of this month is as follows.
End of October: By this stage I plan to have all research done and be designing the levels in detail. As well as creating art work and design sketches ready for building the levels and characters.

I have been experiementing with lighting.


For the rest of the month I will be focusing on the artwork and getting some firm concepts for the levels.

Proposal deadline on friday

Tommorow there is a meeting with my tutor in order to go over the work we have for the Proposal Document. This weekend I have been working solidly on it. The deadline is the 19th October for the document.

As deadlines are comming and the semester is in full flow from now on I will bullet point my goals for the comming days after each blog is made so I have record of what I am working on as the year progresses.

Goals this week:
1. Proposal Document, finish sections, proof read, expand some sections. (priority)
2. Concept art

Onwards

Today was the presentation, I felt mine went well, I was clear with my idea and aims for the project. I hope to find out soon if my tutors agree.

So the first presentation is now complete what next:

Proposal Document to be ready to hand in by the 18th. I aim to have the majority done by the weekend ready for the tutorial on the document.

That is my first priority now, after that some more level design and the beginings of my main design document are some of the things I will be focusing on.

7th October, the day before

I am writing this the day before the proposal presentation. The presentation is 10 minutes long and to be accompanied by a power point or flash presentation. I have chosen power point as my game is not a flash project and at such an early phase there is not enough visual matterial to warrant creating the presentation in flash as it would only appear over the top with slide transitions etc. that have no relation to the work shown.

Since the last update I have been progressing with my proposal document that I hope will soon be complete. I have also been preparing for the presentation, making sure I discuss all the areas needed.

Progress Report

So the blog is up! Thats one thing to tick off the list.

The aim of this blog is to keep a record of my progress through the year and share my thoughts as they come to me.
As a start I thought I'd write down where I am on the date of posting this.

I am working hard on the proposal document, I hope to have it complete by the end of the week so I have it to show my tutor for the proposal document seasion. That way I have a complete document to discuss and change so its even better ready for the deadline.

Also i'm burying my head into the source engine when not working on the document and fighting my wow addiction. I am having to re-learn a lot of things I have forgotten when I did source mapping a couple of years ago. One thing I like with how it has changed since I last used it is I can properly light it with HDR!

Well the work continues and I shall keep the page updated.

Mentality is a final year university project in Computer Games Design (BA). It is a first person physics based puzzle game that looks to add something new to the stale genre with an engaging story and tactile game play of the likes you have never seen before!
